Kerttu on n. 24 cm korkea ja painaa 2,5 kg. Näyttelyissä ollaan käyty, ja ihan kohtalaisilla tuloksilla. Väri saisi olla vähän parempi, mutta jos ei ole, niin ei ole.
Kerttu rähjää "pelottaville" asioille, kuten hevosille. Myös, jos niitä näkyy tv:ssä. Muutenkin tv:ssä on välillä hyvin epäilyttäviä asioita, kuten hiiriä tai vieraita koiria. Tutuille Kerttu on kuitenkin hyvin rakastava ja hellyydenkipeä, ja Kertun mielestä nenä kuuluu nuolla myös sisäpuolelta.
Kertun mielestä nukkumaan kuuluu tulla peiton alle, ja ehdottomasti vatsan puolelle (nukun kylkiasennossa).
SURULLINEN ONNETTOMUUS
Kun Kerttu oli n. 5 kk vanha, oli aika ottaa verrokkikuva, ts. kuva, jonka ikäisenä Kertun äiti poseerasi pestynä, föönättynä ja trimmattuna Kertun kasvattajan sivuilla. Kerttu oli vielä varsin nuori, mutta föönäys oli ollut tähän asti tahtojen taistelua ja tuntui onnistuvan ainoastaan sylissä. Päätin, että Kertun oli aika oppia olemaan paikoillaan pöydällä, kuten muidenkin koirien. Föönäyksen yhteydessä Kerttu kierähti toiseen suuntaan ja pidin oikeasta takajalasta itse toiseen suuntaan. Hetken päästä tajusin föönin läpi Kertun huutavan pöydällä. Pian tajusin myöskin, että huuto oli aitoa, eikä samanlaista kuin Papun huuto, joka suurimmalta osin on diivan esiintymistä. Kerttu ei laskenut oikeaa takajalkaa alas, eikä pystyny näin ollen myöskään esim. pissaamaan.
Pääsin illalla päivystävälle eläinlääkärille, joka rauhoitti Kertun. Hän oli sitä mieltä, että lonkka oli jostain syystä luksoitunut, eli lonkkaluun pää oli tullut pois lonkkamaljasta. Rauhoitettuna Kertun oikea takajalka siirtyi oikeaan asentoon, ja saimme ohjeeksi hakeutua röntgen-kuville, jos tilanne uusisi.
Kerttu sai olla rauhoitettuna koko illan, ettei se rasittaisi jalkaansa. Jätin sen nukkumaan pesäänsä, mutta Kerttu heräsi tulemaan syliini ja nukkui siinä koko illan. Valitettavasti jalan tilanne uusi muutamia kertoja seuraavan viikon aikana. Olin toisella paikkakunnalla, ja eläinlääkärit sanoivat, että kyse on melko varmasti polvesta. Sain kuitenkin kertaalleen kiikutettua Kertun eläinlääkärille tilanteen ollessa "päällä", ja ell totesi, että kyseessä todella oli lonkkaluksaatio. Varasin ajan röntgen-kuvaukseen toiselle eläinlääkärille, koska hänellä oli röntgenlaitteet. Tämä ell oli kuitenkin ehdottomasti sitä mieltä, että Kertun ongelma oli revähtänyt polvi. Lumpio oli löysä; olin pyytänyt tarkistamaan polvia aiemmin rokotusten yhteydessä, koska sekä Kertun äidillä että isällä oli polvet 0/1. Kertullakin tuntui olevan polvet 0/1 (vasen 0, oikea 1). Nyt oikea polvi oli 2 tai 3.
Kertun kasvu alkoi taantua hieman jälkeen 7 kk iässä. Kasvua ei siis tapaturman jälkeen ollut kuin 2-3,5 kk, mutta jos ajatellaan ihmistä, niin jos ihminen kasvaa 16-vuotiaaksi saakka, ja sitten kasvua vielä tapahtuu (mutta hitaasti) niin tapaturma olisi sattunut suurinpiirtein. 11,5-vuotiaalle lapselle. Kasvu on vielä kesken, ja ikävä kyllä tapaturma on vaikuttanut sekä oikeaan polveen että jossain määrin myös lonkkamaljan kehitykseen. Mutta on mahdotonta sanoa, olisiko lonkka ollut A tai B, tuskin C ilman tapaturmaa, joka oli niin turha ja josta saan syytää vain itseäni.
Kerttu is a sweet girl, surrounded by four "boys", at least some of the time (I can't really say, its most of the time, 'cause it's not). Kerttu and Purri spends most of their time together, since they both live with me, whereas Nemo, Papu and Boni live with my parents. Kerttu likes to play with his dad, because Boni is actually the only dog that is equal with Kerttu in size. Purri plays usually very nice with Kerttu, and seems to tolerate a lot from this little pain in the butt. But their playing is quite different from Kerttu's and Boni's playing.
When Kerttu was a small pup, her breeder washed and trimmed all the siblings before their departure. Kerttu bit the trimmer and people trimming her, with her teethless gums. I thought Kerttu would be a small devil, but she wasn't and isn't. She has temper - a lot - but she doesn't bite people (well, we discussed about it in the beginning), and she is sort of obedient (sometimes she just doesn't seem to have the ears, and she has to tell the figures in the tv to go away).
Kerttu often watches tv, standing with two feet in front of the tv, reaching for it. She and her father often do it together. But even though this is one their favorite hobbies, Kerttu doesn't mind her mirror image. She seems to know, it's her. Or me. Or Purri. Or... someone. But she doesn't think there would be a stranger in the mirror.
SAD ACCIDENT
When Kerttu turned 5 months, I wanted to take a reference photo of her. Her mother was about 5 months when Kerttu's breeder had taken a picture of Kerttu's mother, Emma when she was washed, dryed and trimmed. I also decided that 5 months was enough age to dry her on a grooming table.
Kerttu put up a small fight which I intended to win. Sadly, at some point she turned on her left side as I was pulling her right hind leg. Through the dryer's noice I realized Kerttu was moaning. For a moment, I thought it was like Papu, when he opposes something; he does it because we wants to. But Kerttu was hurting. My little sweetheart couldn't lower her right hind leg on the ground. She couldn't pee. I got time for vet that evening, and we went to show her.
By the symptoms the vet concluded that it was a luxation of the caput of the femur. Kerttu was then sedated, and while she was uncounscious, her right hind leg would be reponated. We got the instruction Of having her hips x-rayed in case the hip would luxate again. Kerttu was left sedated that evening. I left her sleeping in her basket, but she trotted to me, and fell asleep in my lap. The awfull thing about all that was that I was to blame about all that. 
Unfortunately, Kerttu's hip did luxate again couple of times during the next week or so. I was told it was propably the patella luxating and COULDN'T HAVE BEEN the hip. Later we found out it was both. I had been anxious about Kerttu's knees, because both her parents had the knees of 0/1. In vaccinations the vets checked the patellas and told that was propably so also with Kerttu, untill her right knee worsened at the accident and became 2-3. She was still growing by the time of the accident. Not much, but enough. In human life she would have been approximately 11,5 years old (she was 5 months and growing slowed down at the age of 7 months. If a human doesn't much grow after 16 years, a 11,5 year-old child woul be about Kerttu's age by the time of the accident). So propably the accident was a great co-factor that Kerttu has hip joints A/C (left/right) and knees 0/3 (left/right), but it is impossible to guess what had they been without it.
